Size Matters
This two-plant arrangement was designed to fill a large pot -- one holding
up to 25 gallons of mix. Your container can be smaller, but should be large
enough to stand out in a crowd. Larger pots are easier to take care of because
they need less frequent watering.
Shade
lovers bring color to that dim garden niche. Greens and purples blend subtly
with their surroundings in this container.
This
jumbo container garden uses shade-loving foliage plants to create a big show.

Male
fern (Dryopteris filix-mas) makes a fine textured, fan-shaped background for
this simple container garden. Growing rapidly up to 4 feet tall, this hardy,
semi-evergreen fern stays attractive even in cold weather.
The Plant
Fleeceflower
(Persicaria 'Red Dragon') sports small white flowers over an extended period,
but the vivid purple-tinged and silver-gray leaves and stems are the real show.
